We are always interested in hearing from curious and motivated students who want to contribute to our research.
At IMPACTLab, students have opportunities to work on research problems involving cyber-physical systems, robotics, artificial intelligence, and related technologies. You do not need prior research experience to get started. What matters most is your curiosity, commitment, reliability, and willingness to learn.
Research Opportunities
Students joining IMPACTLab for the first time are encouraged to consider independent study credit or volunteer research opportunities. Paid positions are typically reserved for students who have previously collaborated with the lab and demonstrated a strong track record in research.
We encourage you to explore our current projects and publications to learn more about our work and identify research directions that interest you.
Before You Apply
Research can be a rewarding experience, but it also requires sustained commitment, independence, and patience. Before applying, please take a few minutes to read:
Read First: Research Philosophy and Expectations
This document explains our approach to academic research, what we expect from students, and what you can expect from your advisor. We encourage you to reflect on whether research is the right commitment for you at this stage.
Please note that applying does not guarantee a research position. Our capacity to supervise students is limited.
Software Engineering Opportunities
We also welcome applications from students interested in contributing to the development of software systems that support our research. For these roles, we typically look for students who have completed 17-313 or have equivalent software development experience. Please start by reading the document above as well.
